If you’re a business owner contemplating the future of your company, let’s connect and explore how Pathfinder Growth Partners can offer a unique and supportive path forward.
Get In TouchPathfinder Growth Partners (PGP) is an entrepreneurial investment fund founded to acquire and operate a single exceptional small-to-medium-sized business in the United States. Our mission is to partner with a business owner seeking a thoughtful succession plan and continue building the company for the long-term.
Pathfinder operates as a traditional search fund within the growing Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) ecosystem. Under the search fund model, experienced investors provide capital to support the search and acquisition of a business, while the founder of the search fund steps in as the long-term owner-operator of the acquired business. Unlike traditional investment firms that manage portfolios of companies, Pathfinder Growth Partners is focused on acquiring one business and dedicating our full-time, energy, and resources to its long-term success.
Pathfinder Growth Partners was founded by Mark Guerra, an entrepreneur, investor, and operator with over a decade of experience working alongside management teams to build and grow businesses. Throughout his career, Mark has advised companies on mergers and acquisitions, invested in middle-market businesses, and worked inside companies to execute strategy and drive growth initiatives. These experiences have shaped a deep appreciation for the people, culture, and long-term relationships that underpin successful businesses.
Mark founded Pathfinder Growth Partners to pursue his lifelong goal of owning his own business. The firm is supported by a group of experienced investors, entrepreneurs, and operators who provide guidance, capital, and strategic perspective throughout the acquisition and ownership process.
Our goal is simple: to identify a high-quality business, partner with its owner through a seamless transition, and build upon the foundation they have created for many years to come.
We seek companies with strong cultures, loyal employees, and enduring customer relationships. By combining long-term ownership with operational focus and thoughtful investment, Pathfinder Growth Partners aims to preserve what makes a business special while supporting its next phase of growth.
Above all, we believe that acquiring a business is not just a transaction, it is a responsibility. We approach that responsibility with humility, transparency, and a commitment to steward the legacy the founders have built.
Our values shape how we search, partner, and lead. They reflect the principles behind every interaction we have and every decision we make as we work to preserve legacies, support people, and build one exceptional business for the long term.
Trust is the foundation of every partnership we build. We operate with honesty, fairness, and accountability, honoring our commitments and engaging with others in a straightforward and respectful way.
We believe strong partnerships are built on clear and open communication. We engage in direct, candid conversations and share information openly so decisions are made with alignment and trust.
No title or track record replaces the wisdom of someone who has spent years mastering their craft and building a company from the ground up. We approach every owner as the foremost expert on their business and show up the same way with everyone (from senior leadership to the employees doing the hard work every day): grounded, curious, and genuinely excited to learn.
We believe business ownership is a responsibility, not just an opportunity. Our goal is to protect and strengthen the legacy founders have built while investing thoughtfully to ensure the company thrives for years to come.
Great businesses are built by great teams. We are committed to supporting employees, respecting company culture, and creating an environment where people are empowered to grow and succeed.
Building and operating a business requires perseverance and resilience. We embrace challenges with determination and a long-term mindset, remaining committed to solving problems and creating lasting value.
Meet the full team behind Pathfinder Growth Partners:
Mark Guerra is the dedicated entrepreneur behind Pathfinder Growth Partners. His work is centered on finding and enhancing the operational excellence of one small to medium-sized business.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Mark grew up in a large, close-knit Mexican American family and played competitive sports year-round, where he learned the values of hard work, teamwork, and resilience.
Mark brings over a decade of experience operating, investing in, and advising private businesses. Mark started his career in investment banking at Barclays, where he helped middle-market companies complete M&A and capital market transactions across a wide range of industries.
He then transitioned into a private equity investing role at Irving Place Capital, where he split his time between pursuing new investment opportunities and monitoring the firm’s existing portfolio companies. Seeking deeper operating experience, Mark relocated to Colombia to join Clínicos, a provider of diversified healthcare services to patients across Colombia.
During his time there, he served in multiple leadership roles across strategy, FP&A, and M&A, partnering closely with the management team to scale the business and execute key growth projects. After four years abroad, Mark returned to the U.S. to pursue his MBA. Between his first and second year in business school, Mark worked at Nike.
Mark received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, with a dual focus in Management and Entrepreneurship, and holds a BBA in Finance and a BA in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin.
Mark founded Pathfinder Growth Partners to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and business owner. Throughout his career, Mark has consistently gravitated toward opportunities that allowed him to work closely with management teams on strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and long-term value creation.
Above all, Mark is driven by the opportunity to build a great company, work alongside talented teams, and create long-term value for all stakeholders. He is here to share his journey, listen to yours, and explore potential synergies that can lead to sustained success and legacy.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys staying active and learning new skills. His hobbies include fitness activities of any kind (gym, running, skiing, surfing), traveling, reading, listening to music, watching sports, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Mark also enjoys meeting new people and building meaningful relationships, whether through business interactions, social activities, or community involvement.
His travels have taken him to more than 50 countries across six continents, which have broadened his horizons, led him on countless adventures, and continue to shape his curiosity about the world.

Below is a full breakdown of how our process, approach, expertise, and strategy differ from other potential buyers:
| Characteristics | Pathfinder Growth Partners | Private Equity Funds | Strategic Acquirors | Self-Funded Searchers / Fundless Sponsors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Process | Quick, flexible process tailored to your timeline and designed to adapt to your needs. | Extensive diligence process involving numerous advisors, committees, and investment approvals. | Bureaucratic approval processes that move slowly, may require sharing sensitive information with competitors, and is subject to regulatory approval. | Often prolonged and uncertain as buyers seek to secure financing after reaching an agreement, creating execution risk and potential delays in closing. |
| Seller Payout | Flexible structures designed around your goals: full liquidity, partial rollover, or phased transition. | Significant equity rollover often required; payouts tied to future performance targets. | Upfront consideration may be limited with additional value dependent on corporate integration success. | Frequently requires meaningful seller financing or rollover equity due to limited upfront capital available at closing. |
| Leadership Structure | Your company becomes my full-time focus and professional mission, not one of many investments in a broader portfolio or one of many subsidiaries within a larger organization. | Sellers are often required to remain in place post-acquisition and report directly to institutional investors who significantly increase oversight, drive strategic direction, and demand large amounts of data. | Leadership rolls into a larger corporate structure under the direction of a parent company, who forces their goals, systems, processes, and culture onto your team. | Typically an individual buyer with limited institutional backing, resources, or experienced advisors supporting the transition. |
| Operational Approach | I step in full-time to operate and grow the business, allowing you to focus your time on other endeavors or interests. | Financial sponsor focuses on oversight while management continues day-to-day operations under investor pressure. | Business is integrated into an existing organization with changes to processes, culture, and reporting. | First-time operators often learning the business while simultaneously managing financing obligations and operational responsibilities. |
| Time Horizon | Long-term ownership mindset with a commitment to building on your legacy. | Defined investment cycle with expectation to exit within 3–5 years. | Strategic priorities can shift with corporate strategy, leadership changes, or market cycles. | Long-term ownership intentions may depend heavily on financing constraints, personal circumstances, or capital availability. |
| Value Creation | Focus on sustainable long-term growth while preserving what makes the company successful. | Emphasis on financial engineering and short-term EBITDA expansion to prepare the company for resale. | Synergies and consolidation often drive dramatic restructuring, cost reductions, or operational changes. | Growth often constrained by limited access to capital, operational resources, and experienced strategic support. |
